Welcome to IHU’s Natural History department web site! The department holds internationally recognized scientific collections of more than two million specimens of animals, fungi, plants and minerals, as well as living collections at the University Gardens. Our staff performs leading research in the fields of biodiversity, systematics, evolution, palaeozoology, palaeoecology and geology, with associated collection activities. We also teach courses given at other institutes at the university and the Research School in Biosystematics (ForBio).

The premises of the Department are in Sindos (Thessaloniki), comprise of 9 lecture classrooms, 2 amphitheaters and 20 laboratory rooms with modern and appropriate equipment.The Department is very well-staffed since its teaching staff consists of 30 Faculty members and 6 special teaching members being one of the largest in the University.
